Protruding Jaw Receding Chin Facial Asymmetry Protruding Mouth Long Face

Protruding Jaw *Skeletal Class III Malocclusion

When the lower jaw is larger, longer, or protrudes more than the upper jaw,

it results in a shovel-shaped long chin or a chin that curves outward at the tip.

The recessed maxilla is repositioned to its proper location,
and the protruding mandible is moved back to achieve proper alignment.

Receding Chin *Skeletal Class II Malocclusion

Due to underdevelopment of the chin, the lower face appears small and weak in structure.
It’s commonly referred to as a “bird chin” and is medically known as mandibular hypoplasia.

After repositioning the maxilla, the mandible is advanced
to align properly with the upper jaw. Mandibular movement is typically performed using the SSRO technique,
and in some cases, it may be combined with genioplasty.

Facial Asymmetry

Facial asymmetry refers to a condition where the jawbone tilts
to one side when the face is divided along the vertical midline.

The upper jaw is repositioned to its proper location using the Le Fort I osteotomy technique and secured in place.
Then, the lower jaw is adjusted
to align with the newly positioned maxilla.

Protruding Mouth

When viewed from the side, both the upper and lower jaws are
protruding forward,
a condition known as Bimaxillary Protrusion.

are moved backward as part of the procedure.

Long Face (Dolichofacial Type)

If the length is limited to the chin area, genioplasty alone
may provide sufficient improvement. However, if the midface
is also long, double jaw surgery should be considered.

The procedure involves moving the maxilla upward, then repositioning the mandible
to align with the new position of the maxilla. In some cases,
genioplasty may also be performed as a complementary procedure.
